About The Position

Mechanical Design Systems Engineer (Associate or Mid-Level) Company: The Boeing Company Boeing Global Services (BGS) is currently seeking an Associate or Mid-Level Mechanical / Systems Engineer to join the Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (GSE) engineering design team in Hazelwood, MO supporting Boeing Phantom Works and Air Dominance Military Programs. This team is responsible for creating a wide range of products to support military aircraft maintenance activity and ground operations. Basic Ground Support Equipment product examples include aircraft slings, engine installation equipment, landing gear installation equipment, handling dollies, and a variety of subsystems component installation equipment. Additional GSE products include protective covers and remove before flight gear. Mechanical Ground Support Equipment Design is a niche within the aerospace industry that offers mechanical engineers countless opportunities to learn about and work with most aircraft systems without being tied to one specific area. The candidate selected for this position will lead work with customers to develop and document complex structural and mechanical support equipment system requirements. Leads and coordinates work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture and hardware designs and interface specifications. Leads work to test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements. Oversee the team that monitors supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements. Solves problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware over the entire product lifecycle. Researches technology advances for potential application to company business needs. Position Responsibilities P2 Oversee external customer deliverables, including SERDs, CDRL data, and GSE hardware. Plan and manage project schedules including EVM performance Collaborate with United States Defense customers regarding new mechanical GSE contracts and their associated hardware / design requirements. Support customer proposals / estimates for new GSE hardware development Develop technical documentation for mechanical support equipment. Create test procedures and perform system verification tests to validate operational and functional requirements Support the resolution of product integration issues and production anomalies Supplier coordination, including SDRL data item disposition Work under general supervision with advisement from more experienced engineers. Position Responsibilities P3 Manage external customer deliverables, including SERDs, CDRL data, and GSE hardware Plan and manage project schedules including EVM performance Familiar with the SERD and CDRL systems and processes. Experience with Slick Wave. Collaborate with US Defense customers regarding new mechanical GSE contracts and their associated hardware / design requirements Collaborate across functional teams to develop effective and innovative GSE solutions to air vehicle maintenance Support customer proposals / estimates for new GSE hardware development Develop technical documentation for mechanical support equipment. Create test procedures and perform system verification tests to validate operational and functional requirements Support the resolution of product integration issues and production anomalies Supplier coordination, including supporting supplier selection, site visits, and SDRL data item disposition Manage and mentor early career engineers in mechanical systems and processes Support internal, informal peer reviews and formal design reviews as needed. Work independently under minimal direction. Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience preparing and coordinating technical documentation (engineering drawings, specifications, statements of work)
  • Proficiency in advanced cad modeling software (NX, Catia or Solidworks)
  • Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position
  • This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of higher education and/or related work experience. (Higher education includes college, university, technical school, licensing/certification programs, etc.)
  • Familiar with Boeing’s Earned Management Value processes and Boeing Silver CAM certification.
  • Experience with mechanical ground support equipment (engine dollies, aircraft jacks, cranes, etc.)
  • Experience interacting with customers, technically and programmatically
  • Experience with mechanism design, mechanical tolerancing and product development.
  • Willingness to work outside the office environment supporting and incorporating feedback from machine shops, mechanics and assembly technicians.
  • Experience interpreting 2-dimensional engineering drawings.
  • Experience with engineering materials and material properties (aluminum, steel, engineering plastics, fabrics, webbing).
  • Working knowledge and experience creating engineering definition of detail parts and assemblies requiring machining, welding, and post processing.
  • Working knowledge and experience incorporating mechanical hardware into designs (fasteners, bearings, screw jacks, gear boxes, springs, casters, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate with others and work on a team.
  • Technically minded with high value placed on attention to detail
