About The Position

HFA has an entry level mechanical designer position open for our restaurant team. Successful candidates will be involved with: HVAC and plumbing design, construction document creation; technical design; execute project production schedules; coordination with other professional disciplines and will work under a licensed professional engineer in a collaborative team environment. For the first three-six months, you' will learn the basics about the analysis tools used in the profession and by our firm through on-the-job training including: Engineering analysis for a variety of building and system types HFA mechanical design and drawing standards HFA CAD / BIM standards Mechanical load calculation procedures and software Navigate through mechanical, plumbing and energy codes as well as industry standards and guidelines The tasks you'll perform involve: Mechanical cooling and heating load calculations Mechanical system sizing and specifications Working on projects using REVIT, creating construction documents and models Create system isometrics, sections and details Attend meetings and learn from listening, asking questions and discussion Coordinate with other design disciplines, vendors (equipment suppliers) and clients to execute project work plans and gain industry knowledge Within the first year, you'll be putting together preliminary layout drawings, calculations and reports to more complex construction documents and reporting. You'll also learn about multi-disciplinary design and will gain an understanding of the building design and construction industry. You may assist in construction administration on contractor submittal review and addressing contractor questions. By the end of your first year, you will continue the development of your detailed design, modeling and engineering design skills and you will begin to teach skills to new hires/graduates. Designer should utilize education and experience to independently tackle minor challenges as they arise on projects, with the support and/or direction of the Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Design Team lead. Designer should start to apply knowledge gained from national standards (such as IMC, IPC, ASHRAE) and experience into construction documents, with oversight from Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Design Team Lead. Duties may include: Designer will develop skills in REVIT, relevant national codes and travel to project as necessary (as required by client). Designer will become familiar with software assisting the design process, such as Trane Trace. Designer will work in a collaborative environment with Architects and other Engineers to develop construction documents based on a clients' requirements. Designer shall perform quality control of their own work prior to giving to Mechanical Engineer for final review. Depending on needs of client and team, Designer could have direct contact with client on a regular basis.
