A Day in Life of a Mechanical Engineer at Hanson includes designing, analyzing, and optimizing HVAC systems for government, commercial, and industrial buildings, ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with relevant codes and standards. You will develop detailed plans, specifications, and drawings for HVAC and plumbing systems, conduct site visits to assess existing systems, perform comprehensive facilities condition assessments, collaborate with architects and contractors, utilize CAD software, prepare reports, and provide cost estimates. The role requires the ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years in the consulting professional services industry, in the Mechanical Engineering Discipline.
  • Specific technical experience with HVAC and plumbing construction drawings.
  • Experience performing facilities condition assessments for HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft® Office, AutoCAD and REVIT software.
  • Ability to collaborate on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with energy analysis software and load calculation software.
  • Ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and optimize HVAC systems for government, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Develop detailed plans, specifications, and drawings for HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Perform comprehensive facilities condition assessments on government and/or military facilities.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and simulation tools.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations summarizing findings.
  • Provide high-level cost estimates.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes.
