About The Position

Rapid growth of the aerospace industry has caused greater demand of flight qualified hardware that builds upon heritage flight requirements. In order to support these demands, Stellar’s processes are continually evolving to offer advanced solutions for design and manufacturing of next generation flight sensors. Product quality and functional performance of these sensors are critical to the success of manned space flight missions requiring continuous improvement in all aspects of manufacturing and test. SUMMARY: The person in this position is responsible for the development and support of Stellar’s core product design and configuration of new applications. Many of our products are unique for each customer and are designed to industry standards and customer specifications. These requirements are determined by review of the specification, and it’s required that the candidate use critical thinking skills in order to determine applicability to the product.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, Finite Element Analysis, mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, aerospace design methodologies, risk assessments, and FMEAs.
  • Strong technical skills and a deep understanding of mechanical designs, manufacturing processes, including the ability to interpret, review, and modify technical drawings.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate with manufacturing and assembly.
  • Self-starting instincts, strong analytical skills, and a passion for continuous improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to put together high-level engineering reports, analysis summaries, and design packages.
  • Ability to create and document compliance matrices from customer specifications and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the design & development of strain gage-based sensors under the guidance of lead and/or manager.
  • Oversees the mechanical design process for new and existing sensors. This will include but not limited to developing & supporting mechanical prints, build documentation, and engineering analysis & reports.
  • Leads efforts to transition development products into the production environment while maintaining design integrity, producibility, and quality of production products.
  • Supports Aerospace Programs by generating new sensor mechanics which will survive the demanding environment of Rocket Flight and comply with industry standards for the Aerospace industry.
  • Performs finite element analysis for new and existing designs, in addition, generate stress reports and FEMAs to support the designs.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves production assembly and test plans, methods, procedures, and training for new and existing products.
  • Participates in problem solving activities related to design, quality, and manufacturing of electromechanical products.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
