These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle. We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer III to join our team and play a key role in advancing our next‑generation ISR product lines. The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains – air, land, sea, space and cyber.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or a related role. Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical design principles and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Ability to obtain and maintain United States Secret Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Understanding of applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements for components utilized in aircraft and space applications
  • 2 years of previous team lead experience
  • Experience providing technical guidance to a diverse team of engineers on issues related to mechanical engineering
  • Experience with manufacturing, production, and product support to include disposition of engineering non-conformances
  • Familiarity with FAA , NASA, and/or DoD design and construction regulations

Responsibilities

  • Functional Team Leadership Lead teams to ensure seamless collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain disciplines. Drive accountability, resolve conflicts, and ensure the team meets technical, cost, and schedule objectives for program success.
  • Execution Monitoring and Control Responsibilities include managing control accounts using Earned Value Management (EVM) principles, monitoring and controlling project work against the plan, supporting project-level issue resolution, and performing functional area replanning as needed. Additionally, these responsibilities involve managing project stakeholder engagement and preparing and delivering project status reports for Mechanical Engineering tasks.
  • Technical Execution Oversight Responsible for overseeing system requirements definition and analysis, ensuring design definition aligns with architecture, and supervising integration, verification, and validation activities.
  • Risk, Configuration, and Data Management Identify and analyzing project risks and opportunities, executing risk treatment and mitigation actions, managing and controlling configuration baselines, and collecting, storing, and analyzing project measurement data.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration Work closely with other engineering disciplines, program management, and external suppliers to align technical objectives and ensure product integrity throughout the lifecycle. Build strong working relationships to achieve shared goals and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Mentorship and Development of Early Career Mechanical Engineers Provide technical guidance, career development support, and constructive feedback to junior engineers. Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where team members can grow their skills and contribute to project success.
  • Process Development and Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve engineering processes, and enhance team efficiency. Consult on and implement best practices, tools, and methodologies to drive continuous improvement and maintain a culture of operational excellence.
