About The Position

Swarm Aero is redefining air power, building the largest swarming UAV and the most versatile swarming aircraft network in the world. The company is moving quickly to launch the first aircraft designed specifically for swarming, as well as the Command & Control software to mobilize swarms of thousands of heterogeneous autonomous assets and empower human operators to achieve superhuman results. The team has created and exited multiple startups, negotiated defense deals worth billions of dollars, and designed and built 30+ novel aircraft, with aerospace experience from Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic. As a Mechanical Engineer focused on propulsion integration, you will own how our propulsion system physically and functionally integrates into the aircraft. You’ll collaborate closely with powerplant suppliers, systems engineers, and the airframe team to ensure the engine and its supporting systems fit, perform, and operate safely under demanding mission profiles. This is a hands-on role requiring strong design intuition, systems awareness, and the ability to translate theoretical requirements into flight-ready hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or related discipline).
  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion integration, powerplant systems, or aircraft mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA) and GD&T fundamentals.
  • Strong understanding of structural design, vibration, and thermal environments typical of propulsion systems.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with manufacturing, suppliers, and test teams.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware integration, assembly, or flight testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with gas turbine, piston, or hybrid-electric propulsion installations.
  • Familiarity with fuel, oil, and cooling systems integration.
  • Understanding of engine mount design and vibration isolation.
  • Exposure to lightweight aircraft, UAVs, or experimental platforms.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and integration activities related to propulsion systems and subsystems (mounts, ducts, fuel, electrical interfaces, vibration isolation, etc.).
  • Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for propulsion integration—coordinating between internal structures, systems, and flight test teams and external engine partners.
  • Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, installation drawings, and integration assemblies that define propulsion fit and function.
  • Conduct trade studies on layout, mass properties, thermal management, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with stress, thermal, and aerodynamics engineers to ensure safe and efficient engine operation.
  • Support prototype builds and flight tests by resolving integration and installation issues.
  • Generate design documentation, test procedures, and reports to support manufacturing and certification activities.
  • Identify risks early and propose practical design mitigations or improvements.

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity stake in a high-growth defense technology company
  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)
  • PTO and paid sick time
  • Monthly Wellness Stipend
