About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of Dexter Laundry’s commercial washer and dryer product lines. This position contributes both independently and collaboratively across Product Development, Manufacturing, and Quality functions. Responsibilities include developing new products, enhancing existing designs, and managing projects from concept through full-scale production. Success in this role requires strong mechanical design skills, a solid understanding of metal fabrication processes, and the ability to apply lean manufacturing principles to improve product performance and production efficiency. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred), or another engineering discipline with 1–5 years of mechanical design experience.
  • Experience in sheet metal design, manufacturing processes, and product development is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing creation.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with engineering software tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support all mechanical design requirements for existing and new commercial washer and dryer components and assemblies.
  • Maintain accurate component and assembly structures, including BOM creation, updates, and revision control.
  • Provide daily engineering support to washer and dryer value stream teams, focusing on workflow and design improvements.
  • Design and develop fixtures, jigs, and tooling to support manufacturing and testing needs.
  • Apply DFM and DFA principles to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality product designs.
  • Partner with production teams to achieve quality, cost, safety, delivery, and 5S+ performance goals.
  • Develop testing standards, procedures, and equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve design issues, implement changes, and drive quality improvements.
  • Support the technical service team by addressing field issues and customer feedback.
  • Participate in Area Improvement Teams and contribute to lean problem‑solving initiatives.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with domestic and international regulatory and certification requirements (ETL, CSA, AGA, KTL, CE, IEC, ISO, ROHS, WEEE, etc.).
  • Demonstrate ownership of business results and personal well‑being.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
