About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a talented and highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Discipline Lead for immediate employment in our Tampa, FL office. The Mechanical Engineering Discipline Lead will work within the Buildings & Places (B+P) organization and will provide expertise in relation to Mechanical and Plumbing Engineering methods and practices within the buildings and facilities space. Ideal candidates will have a strong background and interest in building engineering and working in a collaborative project team, be client-focused, and champion innovative solutions. This individual will participate in all aspects of a project from scope of work development through conceptual and final designs and providing support activities during construction. AECOM’s Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, master planning, urban planning, site/civil engineering, and landscape architecture. We provide design and engineering services for diverse building types, and additionally for transportation, defense and security facilities, industrial infrastructure, and water/wastewater, and other. Our Tampa office includes all disciplines and regularly works across offices and the region for architecture and facilities projects. The Mechanical Engineering Discipline Lead position presents an opportunity for a candidate to excel in their expertise and contribute to growing our Mechanical Engineering expertise and team, leadership growth, and mentoring team members. Requirements

  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida (current FL PE License, or in another state and be able to gain FL registration within 1 year).
  • Experience in leading Mechanical building design of projects and organizing work efforts and resources.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and REVIT for project designs.
  • Experience preparing calculations and design documents (reports, plans, specifications).
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience, in mechanical HVAC engineering covering all aspects of building mechanical and plumbing for building design, having management responsibilities.
  • Experience collaborating with senior project team and work independently to lead project design and supporting team.
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Experience working in large and complex projects/programs.
  • Experience on municipal, federal, and DOD projects and programs.
  • Experience with construction phase services for projects (field reviews, RFI and shop drawing/submittal reviews, specifications, as-builts and record drawings, etc.)
  • Experience with permitting projects, and interaction with authorities having jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Discipline Lead for the Mechanical Engineering team and have direct reports in varying levels of their career.
  • Serving as lead mechanical engineer HVAC designs on a variety of building project types, including mid-to large size architecture and facility projects.
  • Able to organize workload and work independently on project-specific design tasks and lead staff.
  • Able to communicate and present with clients and discuss/explain technical solutions to project conditions.
  • Performing quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Providing technical input to studies and design and expertise for staff's specific areas of expertise/assignment.
  • Coordinate scope, schedule, budget in working with project managers and other senior level team members.
  • Using AutoCAD and REVIT for designs, engineering, and documentation.
  • Using energy modeling software applications such as Trane Trace and IES.
  • Participating in development of technical proposals (including estimates for the engineering budget and schedule)
  • Reviewing permitting agency/engineering standards and regulations necessary to develop proper project design and permitting applications.
  • Work closely with other departments from the AECOM project team/office, including civil, architecture, building engineering, geotechnical, traffic engineers, landscape architects to provide value and partner in project opportunities.
  • Participating and supporting site investigations and construction related activities.
