About The Position

The Mechanical/Structural Designer is responsible for producing highly accurate 2D drawings and 3D models that support project delivery across medium and large scale design and fabrication efforts. This role transforms architectural and design intent into detailed production documents, ensuring all outputs meet PTMW standards for quality, clarity, and technical accuracy. The position collaborates with stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and maintain alignment throughout the drafting and modeling workflow. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, adherence to established processes, and the ability to manage multiple drawing sets and revisions in a fast paced production environment.

Requirements

  • Associate or technical degree in drafting or equivalent
  • 3 years experience working with 3D modeling using Solid Edge, Solid Works, Auto CAD Inventor, etc.
  • 3 years experience working with 2D drafting experience using AutoCAD
  • Computer skills include Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with manufacturing processes experience.
  • Self-motivated, demonstrated initiative and ability to take on projects.
  • Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize tasks to meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and create technical documents, engineering drawings, engineering documentations.
  • Ability to create documents and correspondence to effectively present information, respond to questions, solve problems, and justify needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Design, or related field
  • Excellent working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, along with knowledge of assembly and welding procedures
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and fabrication methods.
  • Manufacturing experience in sheet metal
  • Understanding of welding, fixtures, CNC machines, metal, and plastic manufacturing method
  • Quality mindset and self-motivated

Responsibilities

  • Produce highly accurate shop drawings and 3D models based on design drawings, architectural documents, and information provided by internal or external stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed plans, sections, and construction details generated from 3D models or architectural drawings for medium to large scale projects.
  • Apply established design processes and workflows, including performing required quality checks, adhering to approval gates, and meeting all project due dates.
  • Prepare clearly annotated and properly dimensioned production drawings in accordance with PTMW design standards, drafting conventions, and documented best practices.
  • Set up, manage, and maintain large sheet sets, including tracking revisions, incorporating markups, and ensuring documentation accuracy throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain compliance with organizational drafting, modeling, and documentation requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and key project stakeholders to clarify design requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure alignment with project expectations.
  • Plot, export, and convert drawings into required file formats or printed outputs for internal use, clients, or large scale project packages.
  • Create 3D visualizations or renderings, as needed, for marketing materials, project presentations, or stakeholder review.
  • Provide support to other production areas as needed or as assigned, contributing to overall project success.
