Department RMPDS Support Svcs Admin Job Summary The Medical Director of Denver Health Rocky Mountain Poison & Safety is responsible for medical activities of RMPC and will assist the Fellowship Director of The Rocky Mountain Fellowship in Medical Toxicology. The position facilitates high quality, cost effective patient care for the Center in full compliance applicable regulatory standards. In collaboration with PC Operational/Managing Director, acts as liaison to pharmacy, nursing and EMS communities, departments of health, and other health-care oriented professional associations and organizations. Builds collaborative relationships with academic institutions within our state and nationally. The Medical Director is responsible for the clinical activities of the poison center staff. The role is responsible for the establishment and periodic review of triage and treatment protocol; quality assurance; education of staff, health professionals and students; daily case reviews; and other operation activities. The Medical Director partners with Associate COO for development of the PC strategy, financial management and client account management. In addition, the Medical Director or designee must be available at all times to provide consultation to the center staff and to other health professionals seeking advice from the center on medical toxicology issues.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree Doctor of Medicine Required
  • Doctorate Degree 2. Board certified in medical toxicology either by the American Board of Medical Toxicology, the Subboard of Medical Toxicology of the American Board of Medical Specialties, or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine’s Certification of Added Qualifications in Medical Toxicology. Required
  • 4-6 years Experience as a clinician, clinical leader, and educator Required
  • MD- Physician - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
  • Understanding and experience with call center operations
  • Ability to develop an ongoing educational curriculum for poison center staff
  • Ability to effectively collaborative with business leaders and operational roles
  • Interpersonal skills to inspire a level of confidence and reliability with the profession, the public and the staff.
  • Excellence in skills developing long standing relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to innovate the practice of Clinical Toxicology and patient care in the PC setting.
  • Excellent skills in coaching and giving feedback to peer clinicians and all levels of staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall medical direction and clinical oversight for the Rocky Mountain Poison Center (RMPC), including diagnostic consultation, treatment guidance, and supervision of clinical staff. (15%)
  • Ensures regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and patient safety, including establishment and periodic review of triage and treatment protocols and participation in critical case reviews. (15%)
  • Serves as the primary physician liaison and external Medical Director to clients, grantors, states, healthcare partners, media, and professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels. (15%)
  • Leads education, training, and academic programs, including staff education, clinical competency evaluation, the Medical Toxicology Fellowship, and the Medical Toxicology Clinic. (15%)
  • Advances research, scholarship, and innovation, including participation in research, task forces, public health collaborations, conferences (e.g., NACCT), and professional organizations. (10%)
  • Supports financial sustainability and growth through participation in budgeting, marketing, sales activities, and grant and contract development. (10%)
  • Builds and sustains collaborative relationships with healthcare systems, EMS, public health agencies, academic institutions, and legislative stakeholders as requested. (10%)
  • Promotes talent development, performance improvement, and continuous learning, mentoring staff, fostering engagement, and applying Lean and change-management principles to enhance organizational effectiveness. (10%)
