About The Position

Become a part of our caring community and help us put health first The Medical Assistant is the first point of contact for patient care. Responsible for administrative duties in addition to patient care. The Medical Assistant performs varied activities and moderately complex administrative / operational / customer support assignments. Performs computations. Typically works on semi-routine assignments. Responsible for decisions focusing on interpretation of area/department policy and methods for completing assignments. CenterWell Medical Assistants work within defined parameters to identify work expectations and quality standards, but has some latitude over prioritization/timing, while working under minimal direction. Medical Assistants follow standard policies/practices that allow for some opportunity for interpretation/deviation and/or independent discretion. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or relevant medical office experience as defined by applicable certification program
  • Bilingual English/Spanish- Must be able to speak, read, and write in both languages without limitations or assistance
  • CPR certification
  • Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word including the ability to create, edit, modify, and save documents. Check spelling, grammar, readability, and other intermediate functions.
  • Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Excel including creating spreadsheets, creating tables, sorting data, basic computations, inserting, deleting, and hiding data cells.
  • Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Outlook including configuring email settings, creating, scheduling, and delegating tasks, scheduling meetings, and sharing calendars.
  • This role is considered patient facing and is part of Humana’s Tuberculosis (TB) screening program. If selected for this role, you will be required to be screened for TB.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Phlebotomy experience
  • 1+ years of experience working in a cardiologist office.
  • 1 + years EKG Experience.
  • 2 + years of previous experience as a Certified / Registered Medical Assistance
  • Willingness to learn and be cross trained in other roles based on business need
  • Previous experience with medical "front office" responsibilities
  • Experience with HEDIS
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records
  • Previous experience in a geriatric setting
  • Rad Tech License (AART)
  • Please note: This is a FLOAT position and will require you to work between offices as business needs require. Mileage will be reimbursed for travel between clinics.
  • Medical Assistant Certification: Please note if you are currently certified, some CMA and RMA programs may still require completion of Humana approved certification program within one year from hire date. Humana / CenterWell currently recognizes Medical Assistant Certification or Registration from the following: Allied American Health (AAH), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA), National Healthcareer Association, National Association for Health Professionals, American Medical Technologist, National Association of Healthcare Technicians (NAHP), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), and/or Medical Career Assessments (MedCA). If you are not currently certified through one of these recognized organizations, you will have one year, from the date of employment, to receive certification from one of these organizations
  • Medical Assistant Working hours: Scheduled 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 8AM-5PM Local travel may be required; Mileage is reimbursed

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations, including taking vitals
  • Recording & updating patient medical histories in electronic medical records software
  • Performing routine tests and/or screenings such as mammograms, colorectal screening, and EKGs
  • Preparing and administering medications, including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections—including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider
  • Counseling patients on medication and special diets
  • Wound care and changing dressings
  • Sterilizing and cleaning equipment and ensuring maintenance of examination rooms
  • Collaborates closely with physicians and nurses to ensure top level patient care
  • Highly accurate in collecting phlebotomy samples from senior-aged patients
