About The Position

Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC) is a multi-site mission-driven non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to residents throughout the Merrimack Valley. Nationally recognized as a leader in community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), GLFHC has clinical sites throughout the service area and is the sponsoring organization for the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency program. The MA Training Support Coordinator, is a highly skilled Medical Assistant (MA) with progressive clinical experience and is a champion in promoting high quality, safe and efficient practice within the MA community at GLFHC. As a subject matter expert, the Coordinator designs and implements training and competency development programs that ensure Medical Assistants are practicing to the top of their scope and the practice standards established by the American Association of Medical Assistants. In collaboration with the Nursing leadership, Clinical Educator and other clinical stakeholders, the Coordinator is responsible to ensure curriculum content is in alignment with learning objectives, including that job aides and visuals are effective in reinforcing learning and mastering competency. In collaboration with the Clinical Educator and the MA supervisors, ensures new MA onboarding and orientation is grounded in standard operating procedures, clinical protocols and regulatory requirements. The coordinator an active participant in operationalizing education grants and evaluating program outcomes as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of Medical Assistant Program from accredited institution
  • Certification in Medical Assistant role required
  • Minimum 5-7 years practicing in an MA role in ambulatory care, health center, other outpatient settings
  • Demonstrable experience working in a MA preceptor role supporting the onboarding of for new staff
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) required
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation.
  • Confident in practice as an MA, including a passion for mentoring and developing MA staff to achieve their greatest practice potential
  • Ability to be self-directed and autonomous, with a keen sense of need to escalate based on risk assessment
  • Ability to provide direction and evaluate performance of subordinate assigned (training support coordinator)
  • Ability to manage to deadlines and multi-task in a high paced practice environment
  • Ability to communicate with clarity both verbally and in writing, including preparing reports, tracking outcomes and developing action plans, under the direction of the clinical educator
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in practice and identify and escalate MA learning gaps
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, a passion for practice and a desire to see others grow and expand their clinical practice opportunities (academic progression)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools, including excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Word
  • Ability to maintain composure and focus while juggling multiple priorities

Responsibilities

  • Develops training material based on learning objectives and established work flows.
  • Conducts ongoing review and revision of training modules job aides and visual guides to ensure their applicability and reflects current practice.
  • Ensures content is prepared for (Greater Lawrence University) GLU access and completion.
  • Plans for and implements annual MA competency fairs within expected timelines and escalates opportunities for practice improvement to nurse leader.
  • Provides additional one on one training as needed based on needs of MA staff and under the direction of the MA supervisor and nurse leader.
  • Provides concentrated training on point of care / waived testing procedures that align with regulatory compliance (DPH, Joint Commission) that is delegated to the MAs.
  • Maintains accurate list of waived testing procedures and contributes to survey readiness activities related to waived testing, including audits.
  • Manages logistics to ensure training is scheduled and completed based on written plans and expectation set by clinical leadership.
  • Serves as a collaborative partner with HR and the VP of Workforce Development to coordinate placement of MA students and interns, based on aligned needs and learning opportunities.
  • Contributes to CPR certification and recertification training for clinical staff and coordinates schedules based on renewal dates as informed by human resources.
  • Provides EMR training to the extent it aligns with clinical practice scope for MAs. May contribute to organizational EMR training needs.
  • Collaborates with MA supervisors as needed following training sessions to ensure successful transition to daily practice.
  • Leads, conducts and oversees orientation and on boarding of new MA recruits, including closely monitoring their progress and ensuring preceptor partner is actively engaged.
  • Contributes to the ongoing review and revision of the MA orientation, preceptor, and annual competency programs.
  • Assists in the coordination of reward and recognition programs that support the MA team and improves their overall job satisfaction.
  • Travel between sites is required.
