Requirements

High School Diploma or GED – Required
Certifications (One Required): CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) CPC (Certified Professional Coder) RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) CMC (Certified Medical Coder) CCA (Certified Coding Associate)
Minimum 2 years of outpatient E/M coding experience (Required)

Nice To Haves

Associate Degree in a medical-related field – Preferred
Experience coding Neurology/Neurosurgery (Preferred)
At least 6 months of HCC coding experience (Preferred)
Experience with EPIC EMR (Preferred)

Responsibilities

Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and modifier codes for outpatient encounters
Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to ensure coding accuracy and completeness
Apply official coding guidelines and compliance standards (AHIMA, regulatory bodies)
Utilize knowledge of APC reimbursement methodologies
Perform data abstraction and entry for reporting and compliance purposes
Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and submit coding queries
Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical coding standards
Support quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals
Mentor and assist less experienced coding staff as needed
Maintain productivity, accuracy, and turnaround time expectations
