We are seeking a Medical Intake Coordinator to join our team in our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility. In this role, you will be an essential part of the medical intake process, helping ensure animals are medically assessed, treated, and moved efficiently through the next steps of care and adoption readiness. This is a critical role for someone who combines strong veterinary skills with calm judgment, compassion, and the ability to thrive in an active shelter environment.

Requirements

  • Experience in veterinary medicine is required
  • Animal handling experience in a clinic setting is required
  • Knowledge of shelter-related contagious illnesses, including identification, quarantine/handling practices, and treatment response
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email, and database systems such as PetPoint or similar platforms
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance

  • Willingness to work some evenings, weekends, and rotating on-call shifts

Responsibilities

  • Processing incoming animals in accordance with HSHC medical protocols
  • Conducting routine exams, vaccines, tests, and treatments
  • Administering medications, SQ fluids, and other supportive care
  • Monitoring the general health of the shelter population daily
  • Drawing blood, microchipping, and giving preventatives
  • Entering accurate medical and animal data into PetPoint and other systems
  • Assisting with medical and behavioral counseling
  • Supporting surgery operations as needed, including patient prep, induction to recovery support, radiographs, and treatment assistance
  • Opening, cleaning, and turning over surgical rooms and instruments
  • Collaborating with veterinary staff, managers, and other departments to support treatment plans and workflow
  • Responding calmly and effectively in emergency or high-stress situations
  • Participating in an on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergencies
  • Performing humane euthanasia when approved by medical leadership, operations leadership, or the President/CEO
