About The Position

The Medical Office Specialist (MOS) is responsible for front desk coverage for the medical practice which includes registration, check-in, collecting co-pays, scheduling appointments, billing patients, and scanning records into EMR, reports, and correspondence. The MOS possesses medical terminology knowledge, organization and communication skills, ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions, and professional appearance, all while maintaining a calm disposition, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Reliable, tactful, honest, and discreet in always maintaining confidentiality. Must be able to conduct specific assignments to successful conclusions. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Familiarity with medical terminology required.
  • Experience with patient check-in and check-out process (according to clinic protocol)
  • Travel may be required to other MPA locations in the Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch area.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Office Assistant/Specialist program or Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or one year’s experience as a Medical Assistant or Medical Office Specialist, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • checking schedules and organizing patient flow
  • accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
  • assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
  • collecting patient history
  • performing screenings per provider guidelines
  • assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures, charting
  • relaying instructions to patients/families
  • answering calls and providing pertinent information
  • sending/receiving patient medical records
  • obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • completing forms/requisitions as needed
  • scheduling appointments
  • verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics
  • managing charts to ensure information is completed and accurate
  • Assist with daily clerical operations, including answering multi-phone lines and making copies of documents, as necessary.
  • Accurately files patient charts; including scanning documents into files, as necessary.
  • Schedules patient appointments as necessary, return visits and Specialists.
  • Pre-authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) as necessary.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
