About The Position

The Medical Physicist is responsible for the design optimization, technical evaluation, and precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans under the guidance of the Administrative Director/Manager or Chief Physicist. The Medical Physicist collaborates with the Radiation Oncology Director and the Radiation Safety Officer to assure the maintenance of a quality management program and safety for all radiation oncology activities. Medical Physicist – Radiation Oncology Location: Greater Salt Lake City Area (South Market) Organization: Intermountain Health Intermountain Health is expanding its Radiation Oncology services to two new locations in 2026, and we’re seeking an ABR-certified or board-eligible Medical Physicist to join our growing team. Requirements

  • MS, DMP or PhD in Health or Medical Physics from an accredited institution (degree will be verified)
  • ABR Board Eligible in Therapeutic Medical Physics
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
  • Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by one of the following:
  • American Board of Radiology (ABR)
  • American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP)
  • Canadian College of Medical Physics (CCMP)

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive radiation therapy physics services, including treatment planning and delivery support for SRS, SBRT, IMRT/IGRT.
  • Perform equipment acceptance, commissioning, and ongoing quality assurance.
  • Conduct chart checks and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Drive clinical improvements and implement new treatment techniques.
  • Be comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a busy clinical environment.
