About The Position

The Medical Technologist Point of Care (POC) Coordinator plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the operations of point-of-care testing within healthcare facilities. This position ensures the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of POC testing by coordinating testing procedures, training staff, and maintaining quality control standards. The coordinator acts as a liaison between laboratory services and clinical departments to facilitate timely and effective diagnostic testing. They are responsible for troubleshooting technical issues, managing inventory of testing supplies, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. Ultimately, this role supports improved patient outcomes by ensuring that POC testing is performed efficiently and accurately across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (e.g., ASCP, AMT) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical laboratory testing, with at least 1 year involving point-of-care testing.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory regulations, including CLIA and CAP standards.
  • Proficiency in quality control procedures and laboratory information systems.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting with diverse point-of-care testing platforms.
  • Advanced certification in point-of-care testing or laboratory management.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and data management.
  • Demonstrated leadership or project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee all point-of-care testing activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies.
  • Train and educate clinical staff on proper POC testing procedures, quality control, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing and equipment maintenance.
  • Serve as the primary contact for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to POC testing devices and processes.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of POC testing supplies to ensure uninterrupted testing capabilities.
  • Collaborate with laboratory and clinical teams to optimize testing workflows and improve patient care outcomes.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and records related to POC testing activities, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
