About The Position

NYAP IHBT Mental Health Internship, Newark, Zanesville or Mt. Vernon, OH National Youth Advocate Program is accepting internship applications for our Mental and Behavioral Health team for the Summer, 2026 and Fall, 2026 in our Newark, Zanesville or Mt. Vernon, OH region. Working with the IHBT team, you will get hands on experience working with youth and families both in the office and in the community. You will also rotate through various other therapeutic areas throughout the agency to gain insight to the communities and clients we serve. This position works closely with youth, family, foster parents, and community partners. Enrollment in a Master level Social Work or Master’s level Clinical Counseling program required. Applications will be accepted through 2/23/2026 Your Internship Experience may include: Providing appropriate individual, group, and family mental health services, case management, transportation, and other professional services, meeting or exceeding established outcomes thresholds on behalf of persons served. Traveling as needed, to provide community-based services to, and on behalf of, youth and families in compliance with organizational, contract, and regulatory requirements. Completing all required documentation in a timely manner. Completing all required training in a timely manner. Coordinating and monitoring services for the youth and family in the community, for mental health, medical, educational, psychological, vocational, and social services. Regularly reviews and modifies youth-based plans to assure consistent progress and success on written plan goals. Assisting in family reunification and/or stabilization efforts with the youth’s primary family or other permanent living arrangements consistent with the youth’s case plan. Actively participates in the weekly supervision process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or comparable Human Services field from an accredited institution.
  • Enrolled in an accredited institution for a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Master’s in Clinical Counseling
  • An internship or field placement is a requirement by the institution.
  • Upon the completion of the internship, the individual would receive credit toward their pursued degree.
  • LSW, SWT or CT licensure required
  • You must be 21 years of age on the first day of your internship
  • Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Good driving record
  • Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability
