About The Position

We are seeking a Summer 2026 MEP Design Intern to join our team at Ardmore Roderick. As a MEP Design Intern, you join a team of infrastructure solutions experts working to solve our client’s ever evolving project needs. This opportunity will be located in our Chicago, IL and could have potential to be hybrid depending on the specific client, project and team needs.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a four-year degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Exposure to Revit, AutoCAD and other design software programs
  • Have a team player mindset with the ability to communicate proficiently in written and verbal forms
  • Have good to great organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship, co-op, or project experience related to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, power, lighting, or building systems
  • Working familiarity with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar design and markup tools
  • Interest in building systems coordination and constructability concepts
  • Ability to learn quickly, ask good questions, and take ownership of follow through on assigned tasks

Responsibilities

  • Assist MEP engineers with production of design deliverables including plans, diagrams, schedules, and details
  • Support drafting and model updates in Revit and AutoCAD, including sheet setup, view organization, and basic family or block use
  • Perform engineering support tasks such as equipment research, cut sheet organization, simple calculations, and load summary assistance under supervision
  • Help with field survey preparation and documentation: photo logs, existing conditions notes, and punch list style tracking
  • Support coordination by organizing markups, meeting notes, and action items and helping maintain project folders and standards
  • Participate in QA/QC tasks such as drawing checks, redline incorporation, and verifying consistency across sheets and schedules
  • Assist with assembling project documentation packages such as narratives, basis of design content, and milestone submittals
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, structural, electrical, and civil partners
