Job Summary: The Manager, Merchandising Data and Insights plays a critical role in driving BJ’s merchandising success by enabling the organization to effectively use data to prioritize work, solve business problems, and generate actionable insights at speed and scale. This role ensures Merchandising has the right data, tools, and self-service capabilities to make informed decisions, while improving how enterprise data, analytics, and reporting resources are directed toward the most impactful merchandising needs. This role is responsible for advancing merchandising-specific data, reporting, and insights capabilities through a balanced approach of partnership and ownership. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Merch Program Management, Platforms & Analytics, the Manager will work closely with Enterprise Analytics, Enterprise Reporting, and IT teams to influence priorities and outcomes, while also owning merchandising-exclusive datasets, building targeted reporting and insights solutions, and delivering timely analyses to support the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in data, reporting, analytics, or insights roles, preferably supporting merchandising, retail, or consumer-facing organizations
  • Proven experience translating business questions into data, reporting, and insights solutions that drive action
  • Hands-on experience developing and managing reporting or business intelligence solutions (e.g., dashboards, standardized reports)
  • Experience working with structured datasets and partnering with technical teams on data creation, enhancement, and governance
  • Strong ability to prioritize work across multiple stakeholders and influence outcomes without direct authority
  • Demonstrated success partnering with cross-functional teams such as Merchandising, IT, Analytics, and Finance
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain data, metrics, and insights to non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

  • Advance merchandising data, reporting, and insights capabilities by developing scalable, repeatable solutions that support day-to-day decision-making and strategic initiatives
  • Serve as the primary merchandising partner to Enterprise Analytics, Enterprise Reporting, and IT data teams, helping to define, prioritize, and sequence work based on business impact
  • Clearly articulate merchandising data and insights needs, ensuring enterprise teams are focused on the highest-value opportunities for the Merchandising organization
  • Own and manage merchandising-specific datasets, including governance, documentation, and ongoing enhancements, in partnership with IT as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain merchandising-focused reporting and business intelligence solutions (e.g., dashboards, standardized reports) to enable self-service insights
  • Build targeted ad hoc analyses and insights when speed, flexibility, or merchandising context is required, complementing—not duplicating—enterprise analytics efforts
  • Partner with merchants and cross-functional stakeholders to understand business questions and translate them into data-driven insights and actionable recommendations
  • Enable the organization to better understand and use available data by improving data literacy, definitions, and interpretation of key metrics
  • Identify gaps in data availability, quality, or usability, and work with IT and enterprise teams to address them
  • Establish clear ownership, standards, and operating models for merchandising data and insights to ensure consistency, scalability, and long-term value
