About The Position

Scot Forge Company has an opportunity for you to join their Metallurgy/ Material Science Co-op Program in our Clinton, WI or Spring Grove, IL locations. We have openings for 2027.  We are flexible with start and ending dates around student’s education. We are looking for students willing to dedicate a minimum of 6 months. This Program Offers:    Paid Compensation   Professional Career Development   Opportunities to Advance after Graduation   Real World Problem Solving from Day One   Mentoring and Collaborative Work Environment   Training – Hands on exposure to metallurgy and forging    Students will receive extensive training in the following areas:   Steel Making   Heat Treating   Metallography   Failure Analysis   Open Die Forging   Mechanical Testing   Metallographic Interpretation      At any given time, the selected candidates will be working closely with any one of the metallurgists and other employees from numerous departments to facilitate the completion of his/her projects. These projects are intended to give students an active role in the manufacturing process and provide opportunities for them to see how metallurgical principles are used to meet customer’s needs daily. Anticipated Projects:    Literature searches   Investigating failed components   Witnessing forgings being created   Metallographic preparation and interpretation   Mechanical testing of materials for production or R&D   Analyzing data and problem solving utilizing a scientific approach   Writing technical summaries and presenting results to the metallurgy department

Requirements

  • At least 2 years completed in a University undergraduate materials science/ metallurgical engineering program.
  • Students currently enrolled in a Graduate level program are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Students must have an overall grade point average of 3.0.
  • Students must be proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
