About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Metallurgical Technician at our Tilden Mine site. This position provides metallurgical oversight and instruction to the Operating Shift Manager and Crew so that the necessary process adjustments are made to deliver quality concentrate in support of pellet production, pellet quality and achieve production targets. Summary of Responsibilities: Demonstrates safety as a core value that will not be compromised. Provides positive leadership in a unionized, heavy industrial setting. Manipulates the physical and chemical process conditions to maximize production and iron recovery. Troubleshoots quality specifications and takes corrective actions to maintain product quality within the defined specifications. Maintains shift log and communicates process performance and key control variables. Ensures that operations are operating as efficiently as possible. Communicates with plant operators, plant repairmen, engineering and management staff to accomplish common goals. Participates in plant metallurgical testing when required. Provide laboratory crew supervision as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two-four year degree (related technical) or a minimum of 5 years operational experience in mineral processing, with preference given to candidates with prior supervisor experience.
  • Experience/knowledge in operations and process systems.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methods desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the technical requirements of the job.
  • Demonstrates a fundamental knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics.
  • Sound knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt to various shift changes.
  • Must be a leader who is self-motivated, a team player and results driven.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior supervisor experience.
  • Experience/knowledge of maintenance processes and systems desired.
  • Experience in a union environment a plus.
