About The Position

The Metrology Technician II supports the Technical Information, Administrative, and Logistics Services (TIALS) Contract, at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH. R esponsible for the calibration and certifying test equipment to technical specifications in one of the major equipment classifications of electronic, electro-mechanical, pressure systems, flow, mechanical, photo-optical and physical/dimensional measuring. Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) : Responsible for the calibration and certifying test equipment to technical specifications in one of the major equipment classifications of electronic, electro-mechanical, pressure systems, flow, mechanical, photo-optical and physical/dimensional measuring. The incumbent will utilize calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements. The Metrology Technician II identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms, diagnoses and repairs malfunction in complex measuring and test equipment using theories of operation, block diagrams, schematics, logic trees, and software diagnostics to the component level. This worker provides training to apprentice technicians on methods, troubleshooting and specific setup requirements. This worker will inspect measuring and test equipment for preventive maintenance, cleanliness, and safety requirements, analyze and interpret results of measurements and calibrations using mathematical formulas, and document results of measurements and calibrations on calibration certificates and calibration correction charts. Technician must perform a variety of duties with latitude for making modifications and adjustments as necessary, be able to troubleshoot and correct malfunctions. Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of technical tasks of increased complexity including testing, calibration and repairs on various equipment. The technician receives technical guidance as required from engineering or a higher-level technician. The work is to be performed with a positive attitude, and in a productive, proficient manner. Duties and Responsibilities: Independently tests, calibrates, and repairs electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards, and assists in formulating calibration standards. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Provides training to apprentice technicians on metrology principles, resolving technical problems, and complicated electronic theory. Plans sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment, according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications. Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate other instruments and test equipment. Disassembles instruments and equipment, using hand tools, and inspects components for defects. Measures parts for conformity with specifications, using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments. Aligns, repairs, replaces, and balances component parts and circuitry. Reassembles and calibrates instruments and equipment. Completes all calibration documentation in prescribed systems with a high level of accuracy and in a timely manner. If authorized by the manager, may conduct QC and QA inspections. If authorized by the manager, may perform the duties of the Responsible Area Coordinator (RAC) for the work center. Typically assigned to the most senior technician in the work center. Performs other duties as assigned. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities : Other duties as assigned. If authorized by the manager, may conduct QC and QA inspections. Assist Engineer in procedure writing and validation. Check the Measurement Uncertainty Analysis (MUA), Test Uncertainty Ratio (TUR) and guard-banding. Assist Engineer in validating software and documents. Provides technical assistance to customers, when required. Comply with all other applicable provisions of the Contract. Comply with all Company Policies, Procedures, and Directives in the performance of duties under the current contract. Comply with all Contract Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions in the performance of duties under the contract. Comply with all provisions of the Contracts Safety Plan.
