About The Position

Matthews Memorialization York, Pennsylvania wood plant has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced EHS manager. This person is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing and maintaining a variety of environmental, health and safety programs to ensure the highest possible degree of safety and regulatory compliance. Your active role in our safety culture assures that all our employees return home safely each day. Our plant is a modern woodwork facility that contains a mix of state of the art equipment including sophisticated robotics coupled with time-honored craftsmanship skills to create industry-leading wood caskets. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Environmental Health or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in implementing successful programs to reduce injuries and improve the working environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence people at all levels of the organization.
  • A high degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting

Responsibilities

  • Promoting a culture of environmental and safety excellence and awareness with all employees, visitors, and outside contractors.
  • Educating, training, and enforcing all EHS policies and programs in a consistent manner in line with Matthews International core values.
  • Participating in lean manufacturing, kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives as appropriate with a focus on ensuring employee safety.
  • Developing and implementing programs and policies for monitoring and preventing physical hazards at the facility.
  • Establishing and monitoring key leading and lagging indicators to ultimately improve safety performance.
  • Providing technical guidance to management and all hourly employees regarding health-related conditions as well as preventative actions
  • Developing and facilitating training for workers on issues related to health, safety, and injury prevention.
  • Reporting and managing workers’ compensation claims
  • Completing, submitting, and maintaining all required environmental, government, and company reporting requirements.
