About The Position

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as a 6th Grade Math & Science Teacher. This position will start in August 2026. Endorsements that can teach this class include: math and science (requires both), STEM, Engineering, or K-6 Classroom. Please note: The posted salary is drawn from the 25-26 Salary Schedule as the 26-27 Salary Schedule is not yet final. TITLE: TCHR General Education Teacher K-12 POSITION TYPE: TCHR

Requirements

  • Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
  • Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
  • All candidates offered a position will be required to successfully pass a criminal background check, and a child and adult abuse registry check.
  • Certain positions may require fingerprinting, a drug and alcohol test, a physical capacity test and/or a motor vehicle record check.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in an urban school district.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
  • Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
  • Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
  • Monitor student learning on a daily basis.
  • Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
  • Communicate with families on a regular basis.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
