About The Position

Friends’ Central School seeks a full-time Middle School History Teacher starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the content area, have a deep understanding of the developmental needs of 11-to-14-year-old students, be committed to the School’s Quaker values and mission, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will also be an enthusiastic, dynamic, and innovative teacher.

Requirements

  • Degree in history or a related field
  • 3–5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a Middle School setting
  • Deep knowledge of the content area and pedagogy
  • Passion for history and engaging instruction
  • Experience in effectively integrating technology to enhance learning
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills to connect and build relationships with students, parents, and the broader community
  • Willingness to understand and be committed to the School’s Quaker values and mission

  • Ability to be an engaged, collaborative member of the Friends’ Central faculty and wider community

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of Middle School History. While the current focus is 6th Grade Human Geography, the Middle School History Department operates with a collaborative, flexible model. Candidates should be comfortable with the broader Middle School scope and sequence, which includes 7th Grade Early American History and 8th Grade Modern American History.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment characterized by inquiry, global-mindedness, and student-led exploration of world cultures.
  • Contribute to the continuing development of the History curriculum.
  • Assess students’ progress through a variety of formative and summative methods, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Communicate effectively with families and colleagues to support the emotional and academic needs of each student.
  • Collaborate with the grade team and the History department to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Serve as a service project leader and club advisor.
  • Chaperone field trips, including overnight trips, and other student activities that contribute to the life of the school.
  • Attend and engage in ongoing professional learning during faculty meetings and in-service sessions to maintain high standards of instructional excellence and regulatory compliance.
