About The Position

Friends’ Central School Overview Friends’ Central School is an independent, coeducational Quaker day school founded in 1845 and serving approximately 880 students in Nursery through grade 12. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs, the School has two campuses. The Middle & Upper Schools are located just outside of West Philadelphia in Wynnewood, and the Lower School is on our Old Gulph Road campus in the heart of Wynnewood. Friends’ Central prepares graduates to succeed in college and in life. Middle School Math Teacher Friends’ Central School seeks a full-time Middle School math teacher starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the content area, have a deep understanding of the developmental needs of 11-to-14-year-old students, be committed to the School’s Quaker values and mission, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will also be an enthusiastic, dynamic, and innovative teacher.

Requirements

  • Degree in mathematics or a related field
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a Middle School setting
  • Deep knowledge of the content area and pedagogy
  • Passion for mathematics and engaging instruction
  • Experience in effectively integrating technology to enhance learning
  • Ability to connect with Middle School students
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written, with the ability to connect and build relationships with students, parents, and the broader community
  • Willingness to understand and be committed to the School’s Quaker values and mission

  • Ability to be an engaged, collaborative member of the Friends’ Central faculty and wider community

Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of Middle School math.
  • Content areas include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Geometry at both standard and advanced levels.
  • Create engaging, interactive lessons that help students understand and apply algebraic concepts while reinforcing basic math skills.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment characterized by inquiry, exploration, and engagement.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse math learners.
  • Make math relevant, challenging, and fun by incorporating real-world applications and problem-solving activities.
  • Lead students to develop critical thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Contribute to the continuing development of the mathematics curriculum.
  • Assess students’ progress and performance in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate with teachers, advisors, and parents/caregivers regarding students’ needs and progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the department and on the grade-level team.
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of 10 to 12 students, acting as a point person between home and school.
  • Participate in faculty committees, grade team meetings, and faculty meetings.
  • Serve as a service project leader and club advisor.
  • Chaperone field trips, including overnight trips, and other student activities that contribute to the life of the school.
  • Attend and engage in ongoing professional learning during faculty meetings and in-service sessions to maintain high standards of instructional excellence and regulatory compliance.
