About The Position

The Water Operations Technician supports centralized remote operations for water treatment plants and Salt Water Disposal (SWD) systems. This role operates primarily from a SCADA-based control room environment, providing full remote monitoring, control, troubleshooting, and coordination with field personnel to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient water operations. This position requires strong technical aptitude, excellent computer skills, and the ability to independently manage systems under high-pressure operational conditions.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of relevant water operations or control room experience
  • SCADA remote control room experience (required)
  • Ability to fully control systems remotely (100% ownership)
  • Strong HMI navigation skills
  • Advanced computer skills, including Excel spreadsheets and reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions during system failures or emergencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Salt Water Disposal (SWD) operations experience
  • Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) experience
  • Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge related to pumps, valves, and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with data logging and monitoring software

Responsibilities

  • Monitor water treatment plants, Salt Water Disposal (SWD), and distribution networks via SCADA
  • Track and analyze flow rates, pressures, reservoir levels, and system alarms
  • Perform full remote control of systems including opening/closing valves and adjusting pumps and inlets
  • Respond to alarms and initiate corrective actions promptly
  • Coordinate with field operators, I&E technicians, electrical crews, and maintenance personnel
  • Dispatch field resources when issues cannot be resolved remotely
  • Maintain continuous communication during maintenance, outages, or emergency situations
  • Record operational data, incidents, and maintenance activities
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports
  • Document incidents and operational changes accurately using logs and spreadsheets
  • Ensure operations comply with regulatory water quality and safety standards
  • Follow emergency response protocols during system failures or contamination events
  • Participate in system upgrades, training, and operational improvements
  • Identify and recommend process improvements for reliability and efficiency
