About The Position

ActBlue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating cutting-edge technology that fuels Democratic victories and enables progressive causes to thrive. Our vision is simple: building change through the power of people. Since our founding, we’ve been building innovative solutions to revolutionize grassroots fundraising – if you’ve donated to a Democratic campaign or a progressive organization online, you’ve probably used our platform! We believe in putting power in the hands of small-dollar donors by helping thousands of groups — from local candidates to national movements — mobilize their communities and create a lasting impact. Every member of our team is deeply committed to advancing our shared mission and core values. Together, we are shaping the future of democracy. THE OPPORTUNITY The Research & Insights team helps ActBlue make smarter, faster, and more donor-centered decisions across our product ecosystem. We’re building a modern insights function that connects what users do, think, and feel — linking data and design decisions across Product, Marketing, and CX. The Senior Mixed-Methods Researcher plays a key bridging role between UX and Market Research. You’ll lead end-to-end studies that combine qualitative and quantitative methods — from usability testing and journey mapping to survey analysis, segmentation, and benchmarking. You’ll partner with Product, Design, and Marketing to ensure that every experience — from onboarding to checkout — reflects donor and entity realities. You’ll also formalize measurement frameworks that help ActBlue track user perception, satisfaction, and conversion over time. This is both a strategic and hands-on role for a researcher who thrives at the intersection of behavioral data, user empathy, and business outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of experience conducting end-to-end UX or mixed-methods research in product-led organizations
  • Proven ability to blend qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g., usability studies, surveys, experiments, and analytics synthesis)
  • Comfort interpreting behavioral data and translating it into user and business insights
  • Experience building or running UX benchmarks or longitudinal tracking programs
  • Skill at aligning with cross-functional partners and translating findings into actionable strategy
  • Experience managing external research vendors or panels, ensuring deliverables meet methodological and quality standards
  • Proficiency with survey and data collection tools (e.g., Qualtrics, QuestionPro, Typeform, or similar)
  • Strong moderation skills for remote and in-person interviews, usability tests, and group discussions
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills — able to make research compelling to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Commitment to inclusive, ethical, and accessible research practices
  • Passion for mission-driven work and a curiosity about the dynamics of fundraising, civic engagement, and digital behavior

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery, evaluative, and longitudinal research using both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Design and execute studies that connect behavioral metrics (clicks, conversion, task success) with attitudinal data (interviews, surveys, message testing)
  • Build and maintain a UX benchmarking program to track product usability and satisfaction over time
  • Collaborate with the Market Research Manager on segmentation and brand health studies to ensure consistency between UX and market insights
  • Experience designing or interpreting experience metrics such as NPS, CSAT, and Customer Effort Score (CES)
  • Partner with Design, Product, and Engineering to align research priorities with roadmap goals
  • Translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations that influence design and product strategy
  • Bring user perspective into early decision-making — ensuring findings inform direction, not just validation
  • Collaborate with Data Science and Analytics teams to integrate qualitative insights with platform metrics
  • Conduct research directly and manage external partners or vendors when scale or specialization is needed
  • Own ongoing competitive intelligence: tracking peer product updates, pricing, and UX approaches
  • Support the creation of shared dashboards or reports that highlight patterns in user sentiment and performance
  • Contribute to the synthesis of quarterly insights, connecting UX learnings to broader organizational themes
  • Act as a thought partner to senior stakeholders, framing research implications in business terms
  • Mentor and coach early-career researchers or designers in applying mixed-method techniques
  • Champion equitable, ethical, and inclusive research practices that reflect ActBlue’s values
