About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. This role supports the development and operations of MK2 Crew Lander primary structure. As a manager of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of varying experience levels, you will have technical, budgetary and schedule accountability for trade studies, detailed design, strength analysis, drawing release, and hardware qualification, and you will follow through on manufacturing, testing, and flight phases of the program. Requirements

  • B.S. or equivalent experience in an aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering-related field, with 8+ years experience.
  • Experience running launch vehicle hardware or equivalent development program.
  • Prior experience as technical or subsystem lead, coordinating a team in a fast-paced lean engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with the tools of structural design: CAD/PLM (Creo preferred), analysis (Hand calcs, FEA), and DFX.
  • Experienced in leading programs and technology in aerospace development, crafting, deploying, and supporting complete flight systems.
  • Leader with excellent organization, proficient written and verbal communication, demonstrated resourcefulness, sound business and technical judgment, and a bias for action.
  • Successful experience in hiring and developing great people with skills and demonstrated ability to empower and prioritize effective teams and resolve conflicts.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and ability to travel in support of the program, customer, and supplier activities.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of time and to remote sites
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or systems engineering and experience with launch vehicle development, production, and operations.
  • Experience with verification, integration, and test, of orbital launch vehicles or human rated spacecraft.
  • Demonstrated experience with composites, metallics, bolted joints, adhesive bonds, cryogenic propellants, and integration of large assemblies.
  • Strong business management acumen and experience leading large, geographically dispersed programs with large subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a growing team of engineers, while encouraging a culture of teamwork and innovation
  • Lead structural design through the entire lifecycle to include production.
  • Support around-the-clock production, integration, and testing at our manufacturing facilities, incorporate product design improvements to lower cost and deliver hardware at rate.
  • Plan and coordinate the resources to effectively design, build, test, and certify the structural hardware.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight of design and development, with complete ownership of end item compliance to the defined requirements.
  • Track and deliver on tight schedules, strict cost targets, and high-performance goals, driving rapid decision-making rooted in data and results.
  • Identify, supervise, and mitigate risks to technical performance, cost, and schedule.
  • Lead the team in source selection for all structural commodities, supplier selection and management.
  • Lead team to develop and document system design to support operations, integration, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Routinely report performance to plan on schedule, resources, cost, and technical performance metrics.
  • Develop project summary presentations for customer reviews, internal team meetings and support to Blue Origin communications team
