About The Position

This is an open position as a Mobile Mechanic with, FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FES] Job Summary: Performs duties in connection with the engaged in the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of plant generating equipment. Additionally, performs below grade work in transmission and distribution. Performs other work as assigned.  Effectively assists higher-rated employees in the performance of such duties. Work completely cross functional with the Mobile Maintenance Electrician.

Requirements

  • Must take and pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) test.
  • Must possess a two-year technical or applied science degree, applicable to the work, from an accredited college or university.
  • In lieu of the degree, three years’ experience as a certified Journeyman performing applicable work such as experience maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial service equipment including various pumps, motors, fans, generators, and turbines. The Journeyman needs to be from an accredited Department of Labor (DOL)
  • equivalent military experience, applicable to the maintenance discipline, from any branch of the United States Armed Services
  • or three years related experience, applicable to the maintenance discipline, in a power producing utility or other process-related industry, including, but not limited to: paper mill industry, airline industry, chemical and petro-chemical industrie
  • Must possess a basic knowledge of steam electric generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Must be able to read schematics and experience in reading electrical drawings is preferred but not required
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work in a safe manner in accordance with the rules and regulations applicable to power stations and substations.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work, climb structures, and work in high places. Mechanical aptitude for power station or substation tasks.
  • Mental ability to learn and perform the more complex duties of maintenance classifications.
  • Ability to prepare legible and accurate reports.
  • Must meet Company standards in regard to physical fitness, personal conduct and appearance, attendance, work performance, safety practices and supervision required.
  • Must have demonstrated a genuine interest in learning through individual and cooperative efforts the job requirements of this classification.
  • Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment related to this classification.
  • Job site reporting and out of town assignments and other special qualifications will be required for these positions.

Responsibilities

  • Dismantle, assemble, move and align, machinery and equipment using hoists, cranes, chain falls, hand tools, power tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, micrometers, rules, squares, plumb bobs, dial indicators and/or laser alignment equipment
  • Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures
  • Responsible for shipping and receiving all major pieces for equipment or parts, plus all shipping, receiving, inventory, and control of tools, equipment and supplies
  • Perform material and machine inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, rules, calipers, protractors, and torque wrenchesy
  • Perform machining and welding operations for making various parts for lab and shop training equipment
  • Determine equipment specifications and prepare parts lists for purchasing, consisting of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic devices as needed to complete assigned projects
  • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies and perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs as needed
  • Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in industrial establishments
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.
  • Perform any work involving in the installation, removal, and repair of below grade work within transmission and distribution.
  • Install drilled piers.
  • Construct forms, tie rebar, place, and finish concrete.
  • Construct roads, install fencing, and gates.
  • Install conduits with pull strings and penetrations into control building.
  • Perform work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Taking all necessary measures to protect and safeguard the public, employees, equipment, and service.
  • Utilize trucks, tools, equipment, materials and supplies for assigned jobs in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work with other FirstEnergy crews or contractor employees.
  • Attend training sessions to improve competency as a Mobile Maintenance Mechanic and participate on any teams as directed.
  • Prepare complete and accurate records and reports.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of company policies, standards, environmental safeguards, methods, and routines as they apply to Mobile Maintenance work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
