About The Position

Plan and perform a wide variety of duties to machine, form, weld, assemble, test and modify various parts and components for food machines and assist in related new product development duties as assigned. Work from prints, specifications, sketches, written and verbal instructions and own knowledge. Use a variety of common hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers and precision measuring instruments, Vernier calipers, micrometers and dial indicators. Operate lathe, milling machine, drill press, cutoff saws, band saws, and gas or electric welding equipment as required. Obtain work or instructions and discuss requirements with engineering and other department personnel. Improvise tooling, methods and work set-ups as required for machining, fabrication and assembly of prototype parts and test fixtures. Select normal range of speeds and feeds to perform machining, welding or fabrication operations. Turn, mill, tap and/or bend and form a variety of various types of sheet steel, aluminum, stainless or bar, rod and plate stock. Create new or rework existing prototype or production parts based on project needs. Perform assembly and make and adjustments of parts, and components as required. Install interrelated pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical/electronic parts, controls, or accessory equipment to make proper and/or operational arrangement. Conduct or assist in testing as required. Troubleshoot and diagnose problems. Communicate opportunities with engineering and other department personnel through print markups. Remedy problems within scope of assigned responsibilities. Perform re-work, repairs modifications as required. Coordinate prototype work with outside vendors and machine shops when scope of work exceeds in-house capabilities. Perform other similar duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven safe work habits
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, machine shop practices, procedures, and various machine tools
  • Familiar with common welding, fabrication, machining, assembly, testing methods and practices
  • Must have the ability to work from prints, specifications, and written and verbal instructions
  • Requires ingenuity, initiative and sound judgment
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability and reliability

Nice To Haves

  • SolidWorks or other CAD experience is a plus
