About The Position

Works under general supervision to provide technical skills for performance of basic to complex laboratory procedures in Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree In Science with major coursework in one of the major physical or biological sciences

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory testing based on current reporting procedures in Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory including patient sample storage, handling of clinical material, appropriate analysis of samples including quality control material and assessment of results.
  • Recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems according to procedure. Demonstrates problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities. Delta checks and clinical significant values, QC documentation, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Accurately performs testing according to and without deviation from established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Performs all quality control procedures to ensure validity of test results.Evaluates, documents, and troubleshoots quality control according to lab protocols. Takes appropriate corrective action when errors are detected or specimen rejection / recollection is required. Ensures patient specimen stability and proper sample processing. Masters new techniques quickly and efficiently. Instrumentation. Performs instrument startup and shutdown. Perform and document all maintenance procedures and calibrations, as needed. Evaluates function checks and calibration results. Performs corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensures smooth workflow in all areas of the laboratory. Exhibits efficient use of time and resources. Meets all expectations for turn -around time, QC review, inventory (stocking, receipt, and replenishing), customer service, multi-task ability, computer entry. Coordinates daily tasks to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during the assigned shift.
  • Reports for work on the assigned days at the assigned times. Follows procedures regarding requesting and using leave in manner that consistently supports effective job performance.
  • Performs special projects such as evaluation of new reagents, procedures, tests, or other duties as assigned. Seeks additional responsibilities and opportunities to improve productivity and quality of work.
  • Achieves a minimum of 10 continuing education hours annually. Continuously seeks knowledge in and outside of functional area.
  • Actively participates in Performance Improvement Activities. Serves on committees and task forces. Orients and instructs students and laboratory personnel in established clinical laboratory techniques, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
