Job Description: Job Purpose The Molecular Lab Processor performs pre-analytical and post-analytic tasks associated with processing and reporting molecular lab testing for the appropriate reference lab. Essential Job Functions Technical: Working knowledge of electronic medical record and laboratory information systems Navigate the patient’s medical record to locate pertinent information required for order entry. Coordinate with the lab billing team to verify prior authorization has been obtained. Accession molecular samples by verifying specimen requirements, patient demographics/history, and submitting orders Perform specimen processing, including centrifugation, shipment, and storage Know specimen acceptability and rejection criteria for testing and resolve problems relating to specimen integrity Successfully navigate multiple provider portals to order testing and obtain results. Inventory and receive shipping kits and supplies required for testing. QA/QC/Regulatory: Participate in continuous improvement activities, examine existing processes/procedures, and look for ways to improve them. Complete necessary documentation when specimen variance or adverse events occur Perform competency testing as required. Adhere to all regulatory standards within the clinical laboratory. Safety/Organizational/Productivity: Follow institution’s safety procedures. Follow Universal Precautions, wear PPE. Acts independently and accepts responsibility of the clinical laboratory’s policy and procedures. Complete 6 hours of continuing education annually. Communication/Teamwork: Must be able to interact well with patients, employees, reference laboratories, physicians, and management. Answer questions from patients, physicians, and nursing staff regarding molecular testing. Qualifications Must be able to prioritize and manage tasks in a timely and effective manner. Must demonstrate satisfactory verbal and written communication. Maintain positive working relationship with fellow staff and clinic personnel. Willing to adapt to a flexible schedule and work environment. Education/Experience Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must have 1 year experience in the clinical laboratory setting. Must have basic computer skills. Working Conditions This position works in the Clinical Laboratory of a busy outpatient oncology/hematology clinic. This person will collaborate closely with coworkers, providers, and management. This position requires that the employee handle chemicals, tissue samples, and bodily fluids daily. Physical Requirements This position requires that the employee be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to eight hours a day. This position also requires that the employee be able to perform mild physical labor to complete the tasks at hand. Direct Reports This position is not a supervisory position. We are looking for compassionate, adaptable individuals who demonstrate the desire to lead and work together to best treat the patients we serve.
