Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related healthcare field.
  • Certification required: AMT, ASCP, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ laboratory experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong familiarity with regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, COLA, state regulations).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day Molecular, FISH, and Flow Cytometry laboratory workflow.
  • Perform and verify staff training and competency assessments.
  • Process and analyze specimens according to laboratory procedures.
  • Troubleshoot technical and operational issues.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Plan daily work schedules and assignments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of results.
  • Maintain accurate operational and quality documentation, including instrument maintenance and calibration, quality control checks, environmental and safety monitoring (temperature, incubators), reagent and consumable preparation, proficiency testing documentation, records for send-out specimens.
  • Process specimens for send-out testing as needed.
  • Participate in development and implementation of new instruments and procedures.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support laboratory personnel.
  • Conduct hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Communicate operational expectations and performance goals.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership on quality metrics and operational strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, COLA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Oversee quality control programs and proficiency testing.
  • Identify and resolve issues impacting test performance or result reporting.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Maintain inventory levels to support uninterrupted workflow.
  • Ensure reagents, consumables, and other solutions are prepared, properly stored, viable, and documented, with lot numbers, expiration dates, and any quality control checks recorded.
  • Oversee instrument service, maintenance, and calibration records.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
