The Monitor Tech/EKG Technician performs EKG’s throughout the hospital and outpatient clinics. The Monitor Technician is a trained member of the nursing team within the Telemetry department. Monitor Technicians provide 24/7 telemetry monitoring and observation for inpatients from all disciplines throughout the hospital. The department focus is aiding in identification and prevention of acute medical events by providing monitoring across multiple platforms, and to help ensure our patients receive the highest possible care available. The Telemetry department strives to maintain the most updated evidence-based practices and equipment needed to facilitate our goals. Monitor Technicians are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach we implement at UAMS.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED, PLUS Six (6) months direct patient care related experience.
  • PCT certified within three (3) months of hire (training provided).
  • Become CPR certified within the first 90 days of hire (training provided)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, and accountability
  • Must pass the dysrhythmia course and maintain competency as a telemetry technician.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified as a nursing assistant or military corpsman
  • Current BLS Certification in the EKG or Dysrhythmia course
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • EPIC EMR
  • Kronos
  • Current certification or competency in EKG acquisition

Responsibilities

  • Performs EKG on time
  • Cleans EKG equipment after each patient use
  • Maintains a clear electrocardiogram signal
  • Problem-solves the interference of the pattern
  • Assign an overreader in MUSE
  • Enters all patient information in Epic, EKG machine, and MUSE
  • Other duties as assigned
