About The Position

Incumbent will perform, plan, develop, evaluate, and analyze electrical engineering design tasks and projects with a primary focus on design and analysis of permanent-magnet motors. The candidate should have experience in performing classical motor design calculations to determine rough motor sizing, number of poles and winding design. The ideal candidate shall have an advanced ability to analyze and optimize motor electromagnetic design to determine both electrical and mechanical performance. Incumbent must be able to create engineering solutions meeting programmatic objectives considering cost and schedule as well as technical requirements. Working with the other engineers, the incumbent must be able to analyze a variety of electrical engineering problems using traditional analytical methods and other simulation techniques including such tools as ANSYS, MATLAB, Simulink, and Python. Incumbent will be based in Oak Ridge, TN and periodically travel to Piketon, OH. Travel is anticipated to be ≤10%. What You Will Be Doing: Initial area of focus will be the deployment of motors for a High Assay Low Enriched Uranium (HALEU) facility located in Piketon, OH. Additional assignments will be in support of manufacturing of the motor of the centrifuge in high production quantities to support new enrichment plant. With supervision, provides engineering support by preparing design packages, construction specifications, statements of work, equipment specifications, schedules and cost estimates necessary for project implementation in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Incumbent will have experience, knowledge and skills in mechanical/electrical/chemical engineering discipline; is responsible for all phases of assigned standard engineering projects, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at an appropriate cost Perform motor electromagnetic and thermal design optimization. Perform motor control algorithm design, simulation, specification and verification. Work effectively and transparently with other design disciplines or outside engineering firms to accomplish successful design completion to meet project schedules. Exercises responsibility for accomplishing complex and unusual electrical engineering assignments on schedule and on budget. Must be capable of working within a multi-discipline engineering organization understanding that many of the designs that the ACP-OR engineering organization works on are electro-mechanical in nature. Prepare bills of material, cost estimates and specifications for procurement of materials and equipment. Interact with other business units of Centrus and the US Department of Energy (US DOE). Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomechanical Engineering.
  • Strong interest and/or design capabilities covering an array of electrical equipment and systems from low voltage DC systems through low voltage three phase systems.
  • Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills; analytical and computational skills; computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and Outlook communications.
  • Must be able to obtain or already possess a “Q” clearance.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • This position will require a pre-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.
  • Candidates for positions requiring a security clearance are required to be tested for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 prior to an offer of employment being made.
  • employees will become part of a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • This position will require preemployment background check on the part of the Company and in order to receive a Q security clearance, a background investigation by the Federal government. Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required.

Nice To Haves
