About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Operator will efficiently and effectively serve the campus community with deliveries to their departments, for items ordered to advance their research and curriculum. The Motor Vehicle Operator will be responsible for operating vehicles with heavy loads and equipment to be delivered on and off campus locations. Duties to include the following: · Sorts and delivers incoming mail and intra campus mail. Operates a motor vehicle safely and cautiously. · Required to safely operate all mechanical equipment to include; fork lifts, electric pallet, jacks, lift gates etc. Load and unload truck to make deliveries of heavy and regular freight, mail and packages to various campus departments and stockrooms, on and off campus. · Pick up of archive boxes from departments for storage in archive warehouse. Process and record all incoming Accountables, purchase order and credit card deliveries. · Responsible for vehicle and equipment inspection for safety. Must report any problems and malfunctions to supervisor. · Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Requirements

  • As per Civil Service standards and specifications.
  • Candidate must possess a New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
  • Must be able to move heavy objects.
  • Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid Class B NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Must participate in the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (drug and alcohol testing) as required
  • Have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
  • The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
  • At time of submission, candidates must include all relevant work experience and training/education information. Submissions failing to do so, will not be considered.
  • Upon conditional offer, the State Classified Appointments Unit will ask for proof of relevant experience or training/education.
  • Time and attendance, past evaluations, disciplinary history and the ability to perform the physical and supervisory aspects of this position will be considered as part of the selection process.
  • Verifiable proof of credentials as stated above are the responsibility of the applicant.

  • Out-of-State Applicants: Please note as a condition of employment and in order for this position to be tendered, the successful incumbent will be required to provide evidence of a valid license and driving abstract from the state issuing the license within five business days of a conditional offer and must obtain a NYS driver's license within 30 days of official start date.
