About The Position

The Mountain Bike Camp Counselor is responsible for providing a safe, high-energy, and educational experience for youth campers ages 8–13. This role combines beginner to intermediate bike instruction with general camp supervision. You will lead groups through downhill (DH) and cross-country (XC) terrain, facilitate off-bike mountain activities, and ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all participants.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in mountain biking (DH and/or XC) and a minimum of one season working with children in a camp or instructional setting.
  • Ability to ride 4–6 hours per day in varied weather and terrain while carrying a pack.
  • Strong conflict-resolution skills and the ability to adapt teaching styles to different developmental needs.
  • Proper riding gear and a reliable mountain bike in good working order are required.

Nice To Haves

  • PMBIA or BICP Level 1 certification is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily guided rides on both lift-accessed downhill trails and cross-country networks.
  • Deliver age-appropriate instruction on fundamental skills: braking, cornering, body positioning, and trail etiquette.
  • Assess rider ability levels and select appropriate terrain to ensure a "Challenge-by-Choice" environment.
  • Perform basic trailside mechanical checks and minor repairs (flat tires, chain drops).
  • Supervise campers during transitions, lunch breaks, and non-biking activities (e.g., gondola rides, glacial caves, or climbing wall).
  • Maintain 100% accountability for all campers in your group, especially when navigating off-property or on public trail systems.
  • Foster a positive group culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship.
  • Strictly adhere to all resort safety protocols and the Mountain Biker’s Responsibility Code.
  • Conduct daily gear inspections for campers (helmets, pads, bike condition, etc.).
  • Coordinate emergency response with Patrol/EMS.
  • Monitor weather conditions and heat exhaustion, adjusting the activity level as necessary for the safety of the group.
  • Provide daily check-in and check-out briefings for parents regarding their child’s progress and any incidents.
  • Collaborate with fellow counselors to coordinate logistics and equipment needs.
  • Represent the resort professionally at all times, maintaining a positive attitude even in challenging conditions.
