General Statement of Position: Under the direction of the Mowing Crew Leader, maintains turf and open areas of the District and assists in the maintenance of mowing equipment. Qualifications: Must have a valid Illinois driver's license. Basic mechanical knowledge in equipment maintenance and repair and experience in grounds maintenance are preferred. Representative Essential Job Functions: Maintains a positive community image for the District. Strives to maintain a positive environment among the District’s organizational divisions. Actively supports the Safety Policy and the District’s established loss control program including training, safety rules, and developing ideas for the prevention of incidents, while providing a safe environment for Park District staff members and patrons. Representative Marginal Job Functions: Performs other duties relating to the position as directed or delegated, or as may be necessary such as: Ball field maintenance Trash pickup Tree planting and maintenance Vehicle maintenance/cleaning Snow removal. Position Considerations: Will be exposed to weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain, and ice. Will be exposed to various chemicals (i.e. fertilizers, weed killers, pool chemicals, cleaning agents, paints, and oil fuels). Protective clothing is required as follows: earplugs, ear covers, helmets, respirators, safety goggles/glasses Must use good safety awareness and judgment. Safety and Risk Management Use material-handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects of 50lbs or greater. Promptly report any work-related or patron related injuries to supervisor. Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to a supervisor. Becomes thoroughly familiar with the Safety Manual Contents. Properly orients and continues to train employees on safety procedures. Cooperates with the Safety Coordinator in implementing all aspects of the safety policies and procedures as outlined by the Park District.
