About The Position

MP&P Engineer Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Company is seeking highly motivated 2nd shift Materials & Processes (M&P) engineers to join our team located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), FL. The position involves applying knowledge of aerospace materials and processes to primarily support the production of the Core Stage (CS) and Exploratory Upper Stage (EUS) on the Space Launch System (SLS) Program. This position also may support other local production programs such as Starliner and other Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) needs. This includes ability to interpret material and process specifications and engineering drawings, troubleshooting of non-conformance conditions and associated corrective and preventive actions, and general production floor support during all stages of the build at KSC. This includes interfacing with various NASA employees and their contractors, Boeing engineering and technician support, and product, program, and functional engineering management. This is a team-based position requiring working alongside Boeing and NASA personnel, laboratories, and various supporting engineering functions to support hardware builds. Problem solving skills are essential, and the individual must be able to communicate clearly in both verbal and written form with technicians, customers, and management. This is a 2nd shift position, production support and may require some daily schedule variations (start and end times) and occasional overtime work including weekends and holidays as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 1+ years experience to understand and interpret technical data, engineering drawings, specifications, reports, etc
  • 1+ years experience to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources
  • This is a 2nd shift position
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. Final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Material Science, Chemical or Mechanical engineering
  • Experience with NASA programs and M&P requirements of NASA-STD-6016
  • Experience with Thermal Protection Systems (TPS) for space vehicles
  • Experience with manned space vehicles contamination control
  • Prior experience reviewing engineering drawings and materials/process specifications

Responsibilities

  • Support production in the implementing the materials and processes controlled per engineering, NASA requirements, and Boeing processes – including metallic structure, corrosion control, chromated primer, spray-on insulation and pour foams
  • Evaluate engineering non-conformances for M&P-related issues to provide technical rationale for disposition whether it be a re-work, scrap or use-as-is disposition with collaboration from other engineering disciplines to identify best solution for program considering triple constraints (quality, cost, schedule)
  • Support certification of clean work areas for contamination-sensitive hardware
  • Assist in implementing corrective and preventative actions
  • Generate and release specifications, test plans and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes
  • Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations/requirements and promotes standardization across business activities
  • Knowledge and ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings where prior experience reviewing engineering drawings is preferred
  • Conducts and recommends analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts and processes
  • Communicate verbally and/or written to technicians, senior leadership, and customers
