About The Position

Performs vetting tasks for MRI patients and patient families. This includes assessing and screening for implants, on-plants, or devices that require additional efforts to safely and successfully scan the patient. This requires utilizing knowledge-based decision making on these devices, processes and procedures while working in partnership with the MRSO, MRI Team Leads and Radiology Quality team. Day-to-day involves clearing of the tech-review queue, promptly responding to communications involving patient implants, helping to coordinate communications that require further investigations by the MRSO and other subject matter experts. Reports to Manager Quality/Project Management.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in MRI
  • 80% Administrative 20% Clinical (including but not limited to the roles of MR Safety Tech and Scanning Tech)
  • Successful completion of an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) approved educational program
  • Associates degree or 5 years of relative technical experience
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) credential in Radiography (R), or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging certification/American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (MR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment
  • Must understand all MRI safety standards and pass the MRI department safety courses with an 80% or better score
  • Must be familiar with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta MRI safety practices, scanning policies and screening procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and tasks management skills

Responsibilities

  • Assists key stakeholders with screening patients for “try without sedation” MRI exams.
  • Performs vetting processes on patients being scheduled for MRI for any possible contraindication and/or atypical patient conditions that would require further investigation of other members of the MRI safety team.
  • Reviews all MRI orders for both clinical and research patients in patient’s charts (if available) via OnBase and other platforms.
  • Assists with protocoling MRI orders.
  • Responsible for the MRI tech review vetting queue and the reviewing of the patient screening form, to appropriately move the patient onto the scheduling queue.
  • Works in conjunction with the MRSO, Radiology Quality team, MRI Team Leads, Scheduling and Pre-screening nurses’ team to properly accommodate the patients requiring additional efforts.
  • Filters initial communications from ordering providers and Radiology scheduling and approves and/or rejects common implants/on-plants at the guidance/engagement of the MRSO, MRI Team Leads and Radiology Quality team.
  • Contacts patients/parents and/or families about implant/on-plant specifications.
  • Assures proper documentation is placed within the EMR to display MRI conditions, approvals and/or rejections.
  • May assist in the gathering of implant information to be provided to the MRSO for additional investigations.
  • Ensures personal MRI safety training courses are all up to date.
  • Participates in department and modality specific quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in achieving organizational and departmental goals and attends all educational activities.
  • Coordinates with other personnel to help contribute to a smooth treatment process.
  • Demonstrates care competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
