About The Position

MRI Technologist performs skilled work in Magnetic Resonance Imaging dealing with computerizes scans and using complex equipment in completing specialized diagnostic studies.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with additional training in MR is required.
  • Valid as a Radiology Technologist is preferred.
  • Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2017. Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification. Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
  • Valid Florida State license as a Radiology Technologist is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates highly sophisticated and intricate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment.
  • Performs specialized diagnostic procedures using computer systems to visualize internal organs and body structures.
  • Conducts dynamic and routine scans of the head, chest, spine, abdomen, and extremities using proper imaging techniques.
  • Ensures patient and staff protection in accordance with established safety standards.
  • Assists physicians during imaging procedures as needed.
  • Follows established protocols for MRI computer system start-up and shutdown.
  • Reviews patient charts for laboratory results and allergies when contrast studies are ordered.
  • Verifies patient identification prior to transport, contrast injection, technologist handoff, and scan initiation; applies the same procedures for outpatients.
  • Provides and applies immobilization devices as required, adhering to age-specific safety standards.
  • Administers contrast material when approved by a radiologist and in accordance with departmental protocol.
  • Practices universal precautions and uses appropriate protective measures when handling contrast materials.
  • Assists physicians in administering contrast agents.
  • Monitors Dry View film processing.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, offering reassurance and clear instructions.
  • Performs basic patient care functions, addressing physical and psychological needs during imaging procedures.
  • Initiates life-support measures when necessary; maintains current CPR certification.
  • Provides holiday coverage and participates in on-call rotation.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with the HIS computer system, using appropriate functions to document complete and incomplete procedures.
  • Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions to a supervisor and documents issues in the downtime logbook.
  • Completes laboratory records and reports accurately.
  • Transfers relevant information from the medical record to the radiology request form.
  • Adheres to all safety rules, departmental protocols, and hospital regulations.
  • Participates in on-the-job training for specialized technical areas and attends in-service programs for new equipment and advanced techniques.
  • Reviews the CQI Quarterly Report during monthly section meetings and contributes ideas for quality improvement.
