About The Position

Purpose of position: The MRP System Specialist supports the Finance division by maintaining, optimizing and protecting all data, workflows, and reporting outputs within the company’s MRP system. This role ensures operational and financial data accuracy to support forecasting, budgeting, cost analysis, inventory valuation and executive reporting. The specialist functions as the organization’s subject matter expert, bridging operations and FP&A to deliver reliable, timely and actionable insights.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of MRP systems and strong competency in Excel, essential for FP&A reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify anomalies and support financial and operational analysis.
  • Excellent communication; able to translate technical data for non-technical audiences.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines aligned with FP&A and month-end reporting demands.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older and a minimum of 3 years of accounting (including GAAP) experience is required.
  • Minimum of three years of MRP system experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of FP&A experience is required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, with advanced level in Excel skills required
  • Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary expert for the MRP system, troubleshooting issues, supporting end users, and ensuring 99%+ system uptime during critical FP&A cycles.
  • Provide comprehensive training system for new hires and recurring training for current users to maintain a 100% annual training completion rate.
  • Develop, Refine and maintain advanced MRP-based reports used for forecasting, budgeting, monthly close, variance analysis, labor efficiency, material cost trends, WIP, backlog and inventory valuation.
  • Maintain a 98–100% reporting accuracy rate through structured validation, testing and controlled reporting processes.
  • Ensure MRP data is fully reconciled and ready for FP&A within 24–48 hours of month-end close.
  • Improve forecast reliability by minimizing operational-to-actual variances to <5% month-over-month.
  • Support long-range financial and operations planning (LRP) by delivering historical and forward-looking operational datasets for scenario modeling and capital planning.
  • Prepare standardized reporting packages (dashboards, KPI scorecards, operational P&L views) for monthly business reviews (MBR) and quarterly financial reviews (QBR).
  • Provide margin analytics, profitability insights by product line/customer and cost-driver analysis to support strategic pricing and contract evaluations.
  • Perform ongoing data clean-up and implement data-quality routines to maintain a 95%+ data integrity score across work orders, routings, BOMs, costing and inventory records.
  • Conduct routine reconciliations between the MRP system and Intacct to ensure a 100% reconciliation rate of financial and operational data.
  • Standardizes data entry, reporting and month-end procedures to achieve 90–100% SOP compliance.
  • Own the financial governance of operational master data (BOM structure, costing parameters, routing standards) that directly impacts FP&A modeling accuracy.
  • Reduce manual or offline reporting by developing automated in-system solutions, targeting a 50–75% reduction in external spreadsheets within 12 months.
  • Optimize reporting cycle times so standard operational / financial reports generate in under five minutes.
  • Lead system improvement initiatives and track user adoption, targeting 85–100% adoption within 60 – 90 days.
  • Identify data gaps affecting FP&A performance and implement solutions that improve cost visibility, throughput analysis and financial predictability.
  • Partner with FP&A to automate standard forecasting models (labor absorption, material cost trends, capacity utilization, burden rate modeling).
  • Implement workflows that allow real-time visibility into cost deviations and provide automated alerting for variance thresholds.
  • Partner closely with FP&A to interpret operational data, analyze cost behavior, evaluate labor / material efficiency and support financial modeling.
  • Support variance analysis by ensuring the MRP system reflects accurate job costing, material consumption, labor hours and overhead application.
  • Translate system outputs into clear, actionable financial insights for department managers and executives.
  • Strong cross function reporting and support of operations team.
  • Manage user roles, permissions, and access controls to ensure appropriate segregation of duties and reporting reliability.
  • Maintain compliance with ITAR / EAR and internal security requirements.
  • Lead operational FP&A analysis on production throughput, capacity utilization, scheduling efficiency and labor productivity to identify performance drivers.
  • Monitor operational KPIs (TAT, scrap rates, rework, labor efficiency, overtime trends, queue time) and link their financial impact to forecasts and budgets.
  • Provide financial modeling for operational initiatives such as process improvements, Lean / Kaizen events, resource planning, staffing models and shop-floor optimization.
  • Partner with Operations to quantify ROI on tooling, capital equipment, staffing changes and workflow redesigns using MRP-derived cost and cycle-time data.
  • Develop operational cost-per-unit, cost-per-hour and cost-per-work-center analytics to support pricing, quoting and strategic planning.
  • Support SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) processes by validating operational assumptions and integrating them into forecast models.
  • Prepares accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Suggest thoughtful, scalable approaches to reducing costs, streamlining processes, and improving margins.
  • Manage fixed assets acquisitions, depreciation schedules, and dispositions.
  • Record inventory value of stock projects and monitor values are within core values and market conditions
  • Assist Controller with closing projects/orders and recording cost of sales
  • Research inventory accounting discrepancies and coordinate necessary corrections with various departments.
  • Preparation of month-end journal entries, analysis reports, and financial reconciliations
  • Continuously improve work procedures and processes, including documentation, process mapping and efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate files and documentation in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Assist with other departmental administrative functions
