At Oakstone Community School (OCS), we are committed to providing a personalized and dynamic education for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Our goal is to help students develop essential academic and self-management skills through innovative evidence-based strategies. OCS is a small, family-centered public school located in Columbus, OH, dedicated to serving students with a wide range of academic abilities. We are seeking a dedicated Science Teacher to inspire and engage students in the world of mathematics, helping them build confidence and success in their learning. We are looking for a dedicated Science Teacher who is skilled at adapting scientific learning concepts to meet the unique learning needs of students with ASD. The ideal candidate will have a passion for science and a talent for making abstract concepts accessible through creative and hands-on teaching.

Requirements

  • Licensed Science Teacher in the State of Ohio (licensed substitutes will not be considered at this time)
  • Experience or understanding of teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
  • Strong ability to adapt lessons for diverse learners
  • Passion for working with students with disabilities and students below grade level
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple student needs effectively
  • Comfort working in a team-teaching environment

Responsibilities

  • Plan and Deliver Science Lessons: Develop engaging lessons that make scientific concepts understandable and relatable to students with ASD.
  • Teach middle and high school Science courses (Grades 7–12), which may include Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, and related coursework
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and Assess Student Progress: Regularly evaluate student understanding and provide feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Personalize Instruction: Adapt lessons to meet the diverse learning needs of each student, ensuring they grasp foundational and advanced mathematical concepts.
  • Collaborate with Parents and Staff: Communicate regularly with parents and work with other educators to support student progress.
  • Encourage Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Foster a love for math by encouraging students to engage in problem-solving and critical thinking activities.
  • Behavior Support: Utilize effective behavior management strategies to promote a focused, respectful, and productive learning environment.
