**Job Requirements:**
+ You will be directly responsible for improving search at eBay via services such as spell corrections, related searches, synonym/acronym expansions, query rewrites, metrics accumulation, spam prevention, ranking, and recommendations\.
+ You will be the technical lead \(non\-management\) for a team of software engineers and data scientists\.
+ Collaborate with architects, engineers, QA and operations teams to architect and develop strategic and tactical solutions\.
+ Design, develop and test projects jointly within your team and with other teams to deliver complex applications\.
+ Oversee proof\-of\-concept prototypes for data collection, analysis, and presentation\.
+ Work with engineers, managers, Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles\.
+ Collaborate within the Search team to develop strategic and tactical solutions\.
+ This is an applied research position\. You will be expected to research state of the art search query processing techniques, implement them at eBay, roll them to production, analyze results offline/online, and measure site impact\. Your performance will be measured by site impact and engineering quality\. Publishing is encouraged but not required\.
+ Example Project: Improve related search recommendations by analyzing eBay query logs to find optimal user paths based on success metrics \(purchase events\)\.Hadoop/Graph Processing/Statistics/Machine Learning/Data Mining/Natural Language Processing\.
+ BS in Computer Science or related field, MS/PHD desired
+ 10\+ years software experience
+ Expertise required in object\-oriented design methodology and application development\.
+ Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms\.
+ Excellent problem solving skills\.
+ Data mining and machine learning expertise required\.
+ Familiarity with search/recommendation/classification applications and domains preferred\.
+ Information Retrieval \(search/recommendation/classification\) experience or Machine Learning experience\.
