About The Position

Friendship Hospital for Animals, a leading AAHA- accredited hospital located in Washington D.C. is seeking a Multi-Purpose Veterinary Assistant (MPA) to join our Specialty and Emergency Hospital Team! About the role:
As an MPA, you will support veterinarians and technicians in delivering exceptional patient care while ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient hospital environment. As this is considered an introductory role, you can look forward to learning some of the following, among others:
The goal of this role is to provide an introduction into specialty veterinary medicine and as you gain experience, find you a permanent department after 90 days.
Schedule: This is a full-time position. Five 8-hour shifts per week. Schedule dependent upon rotation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Interest in veterinary medicine; no prior animal care experience preferred
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays (as required in emergency medicine)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Physical ability to lift 40+ pounds and stand for extended periods

Responsibilities

• Assist with examinations, treatments, and procedures
• Practice safe restraint techniques for exams, diagnostics, and treatments
• Cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments
• Cleaning and stocking of exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels
• Assist with laboratory sample collection and processing
• Learn how to communicate with clients in a professional and empathetic manner
• Monitor hospitalized patients and document and report changes promptly
