Title: 5-12 Music & Band Teacher/Marching Band Director Reports To: Building Principal Employment Status: Regular, exempt, GHEA Bargaining Member Position Summary: The Band and Music Teacher serves as the Marching Band Director and leads the district’s high school instrumental music program. This position will serve as the lead teacher for 8th grade band, providing primary instruction and program leadership at that level. Additionally, the role will include co-teaching responsibilities to support the development and continuity of the band program across grades 5–7. This position provides engaging music instruction while directing the marching band and instrumental ensembles, including concerts, performances, and extracurricular activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Ohio teaching license in Music Education
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a comprehensive band program
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching instrumental music and directing ensembles preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality instruction in both high school and middle school instrumental music courses.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with district curriculum and Ohio standards.
  • Assess student learning and differentiate instruction to support student growth.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and communicate with families.
  • Direct and manage the high school instrumental music program, including: Marching Band Concert Band Jazz Ensemble
  • Plan, rehearse, and conduct performances for concerts, competitions, school events, and community performances.
  • Coordinate band participation at football games, pep rallies, parades, and other school events.
  • Support student participation in regional and state music opportunities such as OMEA events and honor ensembles.
  • Organize rehearsals, performances, and band-related events.
  • Coordinate transportation, equipment, and supervision for performances and trips.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and inventory of band instruments and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with other music educators to support a cohesive K–12 music program.
  • Maintain positive communication with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to support student success.
  • Participate in school meetings, committees, and professional activities as assigned.
  • Participate in professional development and district initiatives.
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and schedules.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students through professionalism and ethical conduct.
