About The Position

This position is an exciting opportunity for a multi-instrumentalist and experienced vocalist to work with students across a range of instruments and experience levels. We are seeking someone who is proficient in voice, piano, and at least one other instrument, and who is comfortable teaching both beginner and intermediate students. Depending on the instrument, student ages range from 5 to young adults. Nearly all lessons are in-person at the UpBeat studio, with virtual lessons offered only in special circumstances. Overall duties include: - teach 30-minute beginner and intermediate individual lessons - teach 45-minute intermediate and advanced individual lessons - teach in group settings when needed (primarily for piano) - teach theory, technique, performance, and composition - utilize exercises and games to motivate students - conduct ongoing assessments of achievements through formal and informal testing - help to coordinate and support program activities - contribute towards organizing activities, curriculum design, and student / parent feedback This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate musician to join a mission-driven non-profit and truly make a difference in the lives of youth through music.

Requirements

  • proficiency in vocal performance
  • proficiency in piano performance
  • proficiency with at least one other instrument (guitar preferred)
  • strong understanding of music theory
  • previous teaching experience
  • ability to teach both beginner and intermediate students
  • formal music education or training (we are unable to consider self-taught)
  • a passion for working with youth

Nice To Haves

  • ability to teach advanced students preferred (not required)
