About The Position

To create an age appropriate learning program and a positive and engaging class environment that addresses the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. Helps students attain identified skill and learning targets and fosters each student’s skills, knowledge, and ability for a successful learning experience. Establishes effective relationships with students, parents, staff and community members to enhance learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts degree.
  • Valid Vermont Teaching License (K-12 or 5-9), with middle school endorsement for subject area.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school and supervisory union objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skilled in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all supervisory union requirements and Board policies.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and delivers classroom instruction by: Developing proficiency-based lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Providing individualized and small group instruction and implements a universally designed curriculum to meet the needs of all students.
  • Plans and conducts activities that balances and provides opportunities for observation, questioning, and investigation.
  • Creating lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate learning experiences using a variety of techniques that are engaging, relevant, and meet the educational and emotional needs of each student.
  • Employing educational strategies to improve the development of analysis, synthesis and evaluation skills, language, cognition and memory.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of employees, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Establishes, teaches and maintains rules for behavior, employing techniques grounded in middle school best practices and research to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Assesses and monitors learning by: Using a variety of methods and adjusts instruction accordingly to individual student needs.
  • Evaluating student academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records, preparing progress reports, and using data to inform instruction.
  • Recognizing student needs and communicates regularly with others by: Connecting with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, e-mails, conferences.
  • Identifying student needs, developing strategies for individual education plans and making referrals as appropriate.
  • Being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records, and prepares reports on children and activities as required by laws, district policies and regulations.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and core subject matter using current best practices and as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school and district.
